My Bon Hiver excursion for the Bloggerz.

You know that you're at a good show when you are savoring the quietest moments that an artist hands to you as a listener. At those times I found myself literally holding my breath to refrain from coughing or clearing my throat.

Bon Iver at the Wilbur Theatre last night was quite a visceral experience. I randomly scoffed up a ticket through Craigslist without obligation to buying a second one when we made the exchange. That was sucky for the both of us but it happened. The show opened with, The Tallest Man in the World(omg lolollol ahem,, edit: The Tallest Man on Earth********). An animated solo folk singer he was, and also excited to become an audience member and fan of Bon Iver after his set.

This show had a heavy hand of personableness to it. It was as if lead man Justin Vernon of Bon Iver was talking to his viewers as a singular body. The show also included some sing-a-longs, deep bass, falsetto, jokes, and memories of when his father calls him up and has one last thing to say on the phone before saying goodbye. Maybe it's a Freudian way for parents to try to keep their kids within reach by saying, "Ah hey one more thing," i don't know.

During the show there was not only an interest in the music but the environment of the Wilbur Theatre. The acoustics were at a perfected fidelity which soulfully bounced off the walls. The deep bass seemed to feel like it was coming from some underground spirit or for the typical modern man-a subway rumble. The night was rich with depth and I truly believe that Vernon's voice is the abstracted living Jeff Buckley. So, to say the least the show was grand.

Pho Pasteur.

Funny, I was able to non-obtrusively take pictures before and after the show all I wanted.
