Boston CyberArts Festival

Cradling a burrito in one hand, I ate fast and then rushed down to 22 Fenway. Presenting was the Music Synthesis Department from Berklee College of Music. The turn out rating was extremely large for an extremely small practice hall. The room was littered with college students and shinning front and center was, George Fifield (Director for Cyber Arts Festival). I was pretty excited to finally join in to an event after missing a bunch of other shows happening around for the Festival. My experience and excitement was short lived though with standing at an awkward doorway section of the room and being lulled to sleep by synthesizers, whispers and gently rocking new media enthusiasts. The sound was similar to the mixing of a room full of humming computers and a very early version of Nintendo when it skips then hold a long note for about 15 minutes. By having this serene experience, I noticed that my actual lull was not so much the music but not being visually emersed. Although there was one performance with a video projected behind the performer, I was unable to get my foot in the door. Through these small problems in reflection I realized that I can appreciate the substance deeper in a visual context. I guess that in turn leaves me with a window of collaborative opportunity.
